Maia Brown

  • Laboratory Assitant

Maia Brown is currently a third-year medical student at UPSOM. Since joining the Kolarcik lab her freshman year of undergrad, she continues to participate and dedicate her time towards ALS research. Maia has been specifically working on a project following fast versus slow twitch motor neurons, and how they change throughout the ALS disease progression. Since matriculating into UPSOM’s class of 2027, she was accepted as a Klionsky Fellow for Research in pathology and has presented at institutional and international conferences to present the lab’s work. Her favorite memory is celebrating the 10-year anniversary of the ALS Ice-Bucket Challenge with the whole lab and being the one to dump the ice water on Dr. K!

She has completed a BS in Microbiology, with minors in chemistry and sociology. She intends to graduate with her MD in the spring of 2027. Her go–to music – whether in the car, a deep study session, or just playing out loud – is, and will always be, Beyonce.
